The Dukes of Hazzard
Dir: Jay Chandrasekhar
2005
*
Much like 2004s feature length remake of Starsky & Hutch, 2005's The Dukes of Hazzard has the audacity to try and remake/rejuvenate make a ton of money) from a very fond childhood memory without having any of the magic that made the original so popular in the first place. The only praise I can give the film is that it stars Lynda Carter (although she wasn't even given enough screen time), Bert Reynolds as Boss Hogg and the one clever scene in which the confederate flag (adorned on the roof of the General Lee) is discussed. The problem is that there are too many egos in this film, none bigger than Jay Chandrasekhar's. There is something rather telling when a sequel is made and none of the original cast members come back to star in it. The over sexualization of Daisy Duke was a real low point of the film. Jessica Simpson has none of the sass or charm of Catherine Bach's character, it goes to show how much disregard the makers had for the original.
