Batman
Dir: Lambert Hillyer
1943
***
An interesting historical piece of Propaganda from the 1940's but not really Batman at his best. In fact Batman is a bit of an ass in this mini-series film and he gets knocked out an awful lot to the point where you have to ask 'Is he really a Superhero'? Oh, and it's pretty racist too. Apart from that it's quite good fun, the cliffhangers are often quite good if not over the top silly. The 'Gangster' scenes are pretty good too, I liked it a lot when Bruce Wayne played his other alter-ego, the big nosed 'hoodlum for hire'. Alfred is a bit crap in this version too and the Bat-mobile and Bat-cave a little dodgy. The original Superman film had worse acting but far more charm and also benefited greatly from an origin story. I do love these old Mini-series though.
