Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan
Dir: Rob Hedden
1989

Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan is easily the worst of the series. I enjoyed it more than some of the others but at long last, after years of waiting, Jason finally leaves the confines of camp Crystal Lake and a huge opportunity is wasted. Jason does not take Manhattan as the title suggests and although it was quite cool seeing him walking along subway train and taking in the sights of Times Square, it may as well have been part of a SNL comedy sketch. He doesn't terrorise one of the world greatest Cities as you'd expect, in fact, he spends very little time there at all. The big part of the film sees Jason climb into a boat and kill it's stupid teenage passengers. Why is he on the boat? Why don't people seem to care that their friends are being killed? Why don't people run away from a huge masked man holding a large kitchen knife? It's one of the biggest disappointments in horror history. It was so nice to get away from Crystal Lake but Jason on a boat, the title the film should have had, didn't quite cut the mustard. To hell with you Jason.
