Friday the 13th:
The Final Chapter (AKA Friday the 13th Part IV)
Dir: Joseph Zito
1984
***
By 1984, the Friday the 13th films had somehow developed a bit of a cult
following. The fourth film of the series calls itself the final chapter but it
came as no surprise to anyone that it wasn't the last we'd see of Jason
Voorhees. What I don't quite understand however, is how the series was still so
popular, given that Jason hadn't left Crystal Lake and was still chasing
after teen campers who participated in sex and drug taking. You would have
thought Jason, the audience and indeed the producers would have got over it by
now. It's very similar to the previous films, the ending
is particularly stupid and the terrible acting is as bad as it is in
the first three films. Its big saving grace is that the horror legend Tom
Savini was back on Special effects and make up duties, giving the film some new
and improved gore.Credit is also due for the early appearances from Corey
Feldman and Crispin Glover. It's worth watching for Glover's bizarre dance
scene alone.
