Carry On Teacher
Dir: Gerald Thomas
1959
***
The third outing for the Carry On team sees regulars; Kenneth Connor, Charles Hawtrey, Kenneth Williams, Hattie Jacques, Leslie Phillips and Joan Sims take on the classrooms of the comprehensives of the late fifties. Leslie Phillips and Rosalind Knight play child physiologist and Ministry of education inspector respectively, both visiting the school to see if it is up to standard. When the pupils hear of this they decide to cause trouble for their Headmaster who is keen to leave the school and teach in a more modern college of learning. It's fairly innocent stuff this early on in the franchise, although there is a risqué scene involving Joan Sims' bottom, Leslie Phillips roaming eyes and a split pair of shorts that is clearly an influence on later Carry Ons, most notably the fans favourite Carry On Camping. It's good old classic British comedy. Star Wars fans might like to note a blink-and-you'll-miss-it early appearance from a young Jeremy Bulloch who went on to play the infamous Bounty Hunter Boba Fet.
