Another Day in Paradise
Dir: Larry Clark
1997
**
Larry Clark's second film is good but not great. The story is a little bit like what it would have been like if Bonnie and Clyde offered tutoring on the side, Mickey and Mallory reborn as supply teachers if you will. I found the two pupils Vincent Kartheiser & Natasha Gregson Wagner really quite annoying but the brilliant James Woods & Melanie Griffith more than make up for it with a couple of punchy and thrilling performances. The story goes downhill somewhat towards the end when any charm the film had turns into cliched territory, with samey scenarios and tiresome violence. It's worth a look but I do wonder how Larry Clark gained the reputation he did in the mid to late 90's.
