Peter & the Wolf
Dir: Suzie Templeton
2006
****
Marek Skrobecki, Suzie Templeton and an accomplished team of Polish, British, Mexican and Norwegian animators really did bring life to Sergei Prokofiev's classic tale. The stop-motion animation is second to none, with absolutely no dialogue whatsoever, the movement of the puppets and the way they interact with the music was vital in telling the story, as it was originally intended. This was achieved and was made to look effortless when I'm sure it was anything but. The balance of seriousness and humour is perfect too, it's not too dark that children couldn't enjoy but it still stays true to the source material - I'm afraid the Duck still gets it. Easily my favorite version of the original story, with far more magic than it's predecessors.
