King Arthur
Dir: Antoine Fuqua
2004
*
Antoine Fuqua's King Arthur is yet another wannabe epic that is a historically incorrect version of events. I'm well aware that the story of King Arthur is based on myth/legend but the history of the Saxons and the Romans is well known but completely ignored or bastardised in this version. To its credit it's got a certain level of confidence (gall) to tell an altogether different version of a much loved tale but to be more than fair, it's a really dull adaption. This is just a poor excuse to cash in on the popularity of the epic battle movie of the late 90s and early 00s. It's probably now more famous for the fact that post-production promotion repeatedly saw Keira Knightley's breasts enlarged on posters and magazine advertisements.  Overall it was money badly spent, especially when the best fight scenes look like nothing more than a load of fat men fighting in a garden centre that's been set on fire. The script is so abysmal that I've decided not to write anything more about this film.
