The Keep
Dir: Michael Mann
1983
****
Demons, Nazi's, exploding heads, smokey tinted lens, 80's synth soundtrack, The Keep has it all, everything you could want from a creepy horror movie. The sequel possibilities are endless, it seems strange to me that so many rubbish horror films get the franchise treatment and genuinely good stories like this are never heard from again. Maybe it's best that way but personally I think the idea of the Keep could be reused again in various different time-points with different scenarios. It just needs a good writer, unfortunately they are far and few between and 'horror writer' now has a certain stigma about it. Anyway, rant over, this is a great little horror from the early 80's, the best time for horror movies (and when Michael Mann films were still good)
