Bloody Sunday
Dir: Paul Greengrass
2002
****
A brutal and very real street view of the turn of events during Northern Ireland's Bloody Sunday. Paul Greengrass is a dependable director, he delivers the facts as and when they occurred using no lighting and hand-held cameras to give the film the realism it deserved. It is an important event both politically and historically and Greengrass treated it and people who were there with the dignity and respect they deserved. The performances are brilliant and very real, it is like watching a recording of real events in many ways, but once again in his career James Nesbitt steals the show in his portrayal of Civil rights activist and MP Ivan Cooper - a little known hero who's work deserved to be highlighted.
