The Black Godfather
Dir: John Evans
1974
***
John Evans's 1974  Blaxploitation flick; The Black Godfather, isn't the greatest film of the sub-genre and typically the title is just a cheap cash-in on the name of Francis Ford Coppola's seminal movie made two years before. The story isn't anything like the The Godfather, it's probably a little more like Scarface to be honest but what is missing is the development of the character. One day JJ is just another punk, the next he's running the show, it's all a bit quick and unconvincing. The acting isn't too great, neither is the direction or story, it's just very very lazy and it's not down simply to lack of budget. It's what the Exploitation films are all about and why we love them.
