Alois Nebel
Dir: Tomáš Luňák
2011
*****
A faithful graphic novel adaptation is a rare thing. A rare and beautiful thing in the case of Alois Nebel. The wonderful and faithful animation aside, the characters are wonderfully brought to life. There is a certain strength in the subtlety commanded by animation that Tomás Lunák clearly understands, it is evident in each character and each character plays their part. Everything is important to the overall story, the bleakness, the sadness, the slow and humble pace, it all builds towards the brilliant climax. It may not be to everyone's taste but everything about this film is faultless as far as film making goes. If the Coen Brothers had their names on it everyone would be waxing lyrical about it, you know I'm right.
