Pillow Talk
Dir: Michael Gordon
1959
***
I thought Doris Day was endearing enough and found Rock Hudson's performance to be rather witty compared to many of his contemporaries of the time. You could see both were friends in real life and in one particular scene you can tell the laughs are genuine. It's silly and nonsensical, completely unconvincing and even mildly absurd. It lead the way to all the badly written, poorly acted and abysmally unoriginal 'chick flicks' we've had to endure since. While I hold it responsible for much of what I hate about today's cinema, I still actually quite like it.
