Dead End Drive-In
Dir: Brian Trenchard-Smith
1986
**
Dead End Drive-In is set in a somewhat dystopian future in an apocalyptic - non-specific world. It's no 1984 though. The idea is that the Government are rounding up 'Punks' and keeping them in concentration camps which just so happen to be in Drive-Ins. Concentration camp is an exaggeration. They're just Drive-Ins and the 'Punks' don't really care what is going on. The film fails to understand what a 'Punk' really is. It makes no sense at all really, not that that is a problem with Brian Trenchard-Smith/Exploitation/Ozploitation films, it's just that there is a wasted opportunity here. Most Exploitation films have a good core idea, this idea is flawed from the very beginning. There are a few good car chases/crashed but not enough for a film that is supposed to be full of just that.
