Dolls
Dir: Stuart Gordon
1987
***
I'm a big Stuart Gordon and Brian Yuzna fan. Their films are often described as b-movies, and I guess they are but I think they're also much more than that. The only thing 'b-movie' about Dolls is the acting. It's just low budget. The idea is great, cheesy for sure but the idea that instead of the Dolls merely killing people like in every other 'killer Doll' film, they turn into the Dolls themselves which is far more creepy and visually effective. Like with most Gordon/Yuzna films, there is a lot of symbolism and Lovecraft inspiration but also of their own incredible individuality. The horror genre is nothing without them.
