Rocky III
Dir: Sylvester Stallone
1982
****
The beauty of the first film is gone but the characters are thankfully the same. The story structure is exactly the same as the first two films, as they say "if it's not broke don't fix it" but the predictability the third time round doesn't do the franchise any favours. The character of Rocky has turned into somewhat of a two-dimensional emotionless lump, not quite a sell-out but not the lovable guy he was in the first film. I guess that's boxing in real life though. Gone has the chirpy dialogue between him and Adrian, gone has the punchy (excuse the pun) script and gone has the charm the Rocky movies were all about. Never mind though, I still love it (and always will) and it stars Mr.T and Hulk Hogan, which more than makes up for any of the other misgivings.
