The Comedian
Dir: Tom Shkolink
2012
***
The Comedian is inspirational to young film makers with limited budgets. It looks good, is edited perfectly and has an impressive voyeuristic realism to it. It's a shame then that the story isn't very good. It gets quite tiresome and even tedious at times. The acting is questionable too, not because the actors can't act but because they haven't been given enough instruction. The stand up scenes are pretty good, the character of Ed only really comes alive at these moments, the Bus scene is so realistic I wonder if it really was real, either way it's pretty intense. The conclusion in the taxi and the rather well written dialogue is nice but it was a long time coming after a lot of not very much happening. It's close, I don't want to do anything but encourage all involved but it needs a lot of work.
