Carry on at Your Convenience
Dir: Gerald Thomas
1971
***
Carry on at Your Convenience is the 22nd Carry On film and very much of its time. Most Carry On films revolve around a place, profession or historical event, Carry on at Your Convenience however deals with the very current issue of Unions and strikes, with a bit of British toilet humour added for good measure of course. The unions are slightly unfairly treated but upper management is represented quite well - the main message being that everyone wants to get on with work, laugh and hopefully get some on Friday night. However, the Carry On demographic was the working class, so poking fun at the unions during these turbulent times was a fairly short-sighted decision and unsurprisingly this was one of the less popular Carry On films and it was the first to bomb at the box office.
