Goodbye Charlie Bright
Dir: Nick Love
2001
*
Nick Love made some great and gritty thug dramas in the 2000's, The Football factory was fairly prestigious, The Business was a great surprise and Outlaw raised some serious questions. His debut film Goodbye Charlie Bright however, is nothing short of awful. It still seems to be celebrated by some though and Time Out gave it a 5 star review upon its release. 2001 wasn't the best year for film it has to be said but I can think of 100 better films out that year. The story is stupid, totally unrepresentative of the area that it is set. The characters are badly drawn cartoons and the geezers are nothing but a bunch of RADA trained pretty boys. It has no credibility what so ever and very little point. It's a dire watch and stars a few people who should have known better.
