Sharknado 2: The Second One
Dir: Anthony CFerrante
2014
*
I wasn't the biggest fan of the first Sharknado film so stupid me for seeing the second. That said, the title of the sequel 'The Second One' gave the impression that they'd decided to make the film less serious, which they had, so I gave it a go. It is a vast improvement, seriously, it is. The concept is still stupid and the sharks still look rubbish but some of the ideas were great. The Airplane scene was a big cheesy bit of fun, the headless Statue of Liberty was inventive and the reference to New York's mythical sewer Crocodile was rather clever. It knows it's bad, is silly and a bit of dumb fun. Fine. However, this does not excuse terrible film making. This isn't a budget issue either, although they must have had a fairly good one after the success of the first film. Every technical aspect of this film was dreadful and it makes me sad for all the really good independent films that don't get made. Actors look in the wrong direction, the editing is all over the place, the continuity is shocking...I could go on. This stuff is important, no matter how serious the film. The joke is only funny for a short amount of time, then it becomes annoying. It's time to celebrate something else a bit more worthwhile I think.
