MacGruber
Dir: Jorma Taccone
2010
**
Jorma Taccone and Will Forte's MacGruber generally isn't very funny but it does have a couple of laugh out loud moments. It's good that it doesn't milk these laugh out loud moments by repeating them but unfortunately it does with all the other crap jokes. It's been done before and it has been done better (never brilliantly, but better). The idea of a bumbling special op is a spoof idea that actually worked well in the 1980's, so it is a bit unnecessary to have a film with an 80's throw back in it. In fact, films that have people out of era never really work (apart from Austin Powers or OSS 117), base it in one era and be done with it. I think with tinkering it could have worked well but there were some big egos involved, Will Forte is a little bit selfish with his character which is a pet hate of mine. It should have veered away from the smutty and crass stuff too and just concentrated on the action spoof idea.
