Garage
Dir: Lenny Abrahamson
2007
****
Garage is a heartwarming and rewarding comedy drama, typical of Lenny Abrahamson's style and humour. Pat Shortt's performance is suitably subtle, funny, awkward and instantly recognisable as someone we all know. The simplicity might put people off but for me it's the big selling point, that and the fact it turns the idea that ignorance is bliss on its head. Who are the ignorant ones and who exactly is living in bliss? Intelligence and the ideal are explored in what is one of the most overlooked films of the 2000s. Overlooked is Lenny Abrahamson all over though it seems, hopefully this will change soon.
