The Unknown Known
Dir: Errol Morris
2013
****
How on earth did Errol Morris, a respected documentarian who has changed both law and history in his films, convince Donald Rumsfeld, the former United States Secretary of Defense and all round 'questionable' character, to sit for an interview. I have my own views about Rumsfeld, let's just say that anyone closely associated with Nixon and the Bush family isn't on my list of favorite people ever. In the Unknown Known he talks about what governments don't know, mistakes they make (cos, you know, they're only human) and how we really shouldn't worry about it. He laughs and he smiles without one second of though about the damage he's caused the world. Is he evil incarnate or just a complete idiot? Lets just agree on egotistical megalomaniac. A devastating but enthralling interview from Morris that left me slightly gobsmacked and a little more neurotic than normal.
