The Cold Light of Day
Dir: Mabrouk El Mechri
2012
**
The title sounds like a cheap pulp detective novel and the film is like a cheap adaptation of one, albeit minus the detective. It starts off pretty well, the scene where the boat goes missing reeled me in for sure but then the action took over from the intrigue and the story took all the worst parts of every rubbish thriller you've ever seen and put them all together. Bruce Willis's involvement is unnecessary and distracting, he was used for his name and it damages the film. Henry Cavill works well with what he's got but he ain't got much. The only resounding success is Sigourney Weaver's performance. They should have got rid of everything else and just had her shooting guns at people for two hours (while smiling), it would have been far more entertaining.
