Jules Verne's Rocket to the Moon (AKA Those Fantastic Flying Fools)
Dir: Don Sharp
1967
*****
Fans of Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines or How I Flew from London to Paris in 25 hours 11 minutes and Monte Carlo or Bust! (AKA Those Daring Young Men in Their Jaunty Jalopies) should know that Jules Verne's Rocket to the Moon (AKA Those Fantastic Flying Fools) has nothing to do with either film and was merely named similarly to Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines in America due to poor initial sales. However, fans of the aforementioned films should take note that it is just as glorious. Terry-Thomas and Gert Frobe are reunited and are joined by the lovable Burl Ives, visual funny man Graham Stark, classical actor Dennis Price and everyone's favorite Granddad Lionel Jeffries. It is over the top, very silly and my favorite kind of film. These are the kinds of films I grew up on and still love today. The only reason they haven't been more successful is that not enough people are aware they exist. Terry-Thomas and Lionel Jeffries are two of my very favorite actor/comedians of all time but as good as they are here, I think Gert Frobe steals the show. A wonderfully timeless classic.
