All about my Mother
Dir: Pedro Almodóvar
1999
****
I remember when All about my Mother came out, suddenly everyone knew who Pedro Almodóvar was, Live Flesh did well but this was his real international breakthrough into the mainstream (although his films are anything but). I wonder if that was his intention because as much as I really liked All about my Mother, it was very similar to both Tie me up, Tie me Down and Flower of my Secret in style and in story. It's okay to copy your own stories though, especially when they're this good and long may they continue. What with Nuns, soap stars and Drag-queens in the mix, you know it's all Almodovar in all his glory.
