Sex Tape
Dir: Jake Kasdan
2014
*
Sex sells, somehow bad comedy does too. Seriously though, this is yet another comedy that absolutely no one can relate to and if you're after sex - there isn't any and if you're after laughs - there also aren't any. You can see how unfunny the film is by looking at Jason Segal's face, it is clear to see he realises it too and so gives a somewhat contemptuous performance. I imagine the fact he gets to oggle Cameron Diaz was reason enough for him to commit and indeed the films selling point. She's an attractive lady, she has got it and is thus flaunting it but it's beginning to come at the expense of self respect. She proved her worth last in The Counselor, she doesn't need to be taking off her clothes anymore, it's getting a bit tired. Hollywood does treat women badly once they turn 40 but still, she's better than this, I think. Jake Kasdan's films seem to go down a notch each time, they are looking pretty tired now which is a shame considering his strong work in TV. You know a film has hit rock bottom when one of the main characters takes drugs by mistake and/or one of the main characters has an altercation with an animal - this film is guilty of both and is boring because of it.
