300
Dir: Zack Snyder
2007
****
Zack Snyder proves he understands comics and is passionate about them. Comic/Graphic Novel adaptations are very rarely this good, he really does make Frank Millers beautiful illustrations come to life. It is a little bit long-winded in places and it did seem to peak half way through but all in all it had some impressive action scenes, impressive CGI effects (something I usually hate in films) and some interesting characters. The full on CGI effects actually work quite well here, it's an over the top graphic novel so all exaggerations of it seem justified. It also stars some personal favorites of mine, including the ever wonderful Lena Headey. A gutsy and impressive adaptation that makes all other films about the 300 Spartans look a little pathetic now and certainly not a film for pacifists.
