An American Werewolf in Paris
Dir: Anthony Waller
1997
**
Why anyone would want to follow on from the brilliant An American Werewolf in London is beyond me, it's a valiant effort but I'm afraid Anthony Waller's 1997 An American Werewolf in Paris doesn't come close to the original's greatness. However, there is some merit to the attempt. The cheap CGI is mainly terrible but it has it's moments, the bad guys aren't nearly scary enough and the casting is questionable but the story is quite good, Julie Delpy is lovely and it gets better as it goes on. It goes for laughs more than the original did which upsets the balance somewhat but I thought Julie Bowen's character added some much needed humour when the film lags at the halfway point. All the great elements of the first film are watered down though, and the overall tone doesn't really work. I love cheesy 90's horror and I do have a soft spot for it but no matter how many times Delpy shows the audience her breasts, it's really doesn't cut the mustard.
