BatmanAssault on Arkham
Dir: Jay Oliva, Ethan Spaulding
2014
****
Of all the DC animations over the years, and there have been quite a few, this is the best (and my favorite) since 1993's BatmanMask of the Phantasm. It's dark, funny and resembles the game and comic it's based on. It's nice to see the inclusion of new characters but all the old favorites are featured, it's very much still a Batman film but it is also something totally new. The story, characters and animation are brilliant and at long last we have our Harley Quinn, King Shark and Deadshot. This is very much one for the adults and it's about time, for too long have these animations been about the youngsters which totally misses the facts that the Batman comics are strictly for grown ups. This is such a pleasant surprise, I hope DC continue in this vein.
