Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
Dir: Nicholas Meyer
1982
*****
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan is every Trekkie's favorite. Firstly it touches on an interesting episode from the original series that deals with a strong political and social question. It questions the capability of the Enterprise crew, authority and elitism. This was the starting point of a regular topic in the films that asked whether, on reflection, they made all the right decisions. It's a wonderful piece of character development after the 10 year gap between TV and film incarnations and the highly respected and loved by millions finale is testament to that. The final scene was 16 years in the making - something they failed to understand in Star Trek: Into Darkness. It was a wonderful way of watching our favorite characters age. The film is full of excitement, originality, suspense and the stuff that makes Star Trek so popular. Of all the scenes in the whole of the Star Trek universe the last is the very best. This isn't just a great Star Trek film though, this is a great bit of cinema in its own right. You are, and always will be, the best Star Trek film. Live long and prosper Star Trek 2!
