The Pervert's Guide to Ideology
Dir: Sophie Fiennes
2012
*****
The Pervert's Guide to Ideology is an absolute must for all Cinephiles, although for many it will be preaching to the converted. Slavoj Žižek follows up his 2006 film; The Pervert's Guide to Cinema with a more in depth look at ideology in cinema and it's evolution over the years. Its starting point is the fantastic (and personal favorite) They Live. After that I was hooked. Slavoj Žižek is hard to understand due to his individual speech but once you get used to it, there is a fountain of knowledge to be had. Food for thought. You may never look at a film the same way again but if you think about the issues discussed you should enjoy cinema in a way you never did before.
