Time Bandits
Dir: Terry Gilliam
1981
****
Time Bandits is Terry Gilliam's two fingered salute to those who said The Adventures of Baron Munchausen was 'One of the worst films ever made'. It's fair to say that Gilliam hadn't quite found his feet with Munchausen but I would argue the key lessons he learnt were how to deal with pesky producers rather than gain any creative insights - he was already one of the most creative in the business. Time Bandits represents the last film were we really see any of his Monty Python style influences, the humour is much the same although it is much darker and Gilliam's style (beyond the large stamping foot) is born.
