The Big White
Dir: Mark Mylod
2005
**
The Big White is quirky and not without charm, although it is Holly Hunter alone that really provides this. The collection of cast is great but apart from Holly Hunter, no one really gives a great performance. The Big White is basically Mark Mylod trying to do a Simple plan by way of the Coen Brothers (Fargo). And no, this isn't a lazy review because this film happens to be set somewhere snowy either. The story of A simple Plan is very similar and the Coens are undeniably an influence. Unfortunately this film is not as good as the films it follows but it's harmless all the same, it just lacks originality and that certain spark that would bring it to life.
