Everybody's Fine
Dir: Kirk Jones
2009
***
Kirk Jones' Everybody's Fine is a decent and heartfelt drama that refrains from being too heavy handed. It's a brave move to copy the work of someone as great as Giuseppe Tornatore but I think they get away with it, as this is a very different film to the 1990 original. DeNiro does a decent job but is let down ever so slightly by a lethargic supporting cast. The scenes with his children as children is very strong though and I did like the conclusion very much. With some fine tuning this could have been a contender but as it is it's just good. It had an awful poster though which was rather misleading as this really isn't much of a 'Christmas' film as it was initially advertised.
