Wilde
Dir: Brian Gilbert
1997
****
Stephen Fry was perfect for the lead role of Oscar Wilde, he played it brilliantly and was extremely convincing and I can't think of anyone else who could have given the role the justice it deserved. The acting throughout the film was of a high standard and I enjoyed it very much. The story concentrated a little too much on his relationships though, I'd like to have known a little more about his writing so as much as I liked it, I feel I didn't find out half as much as I should have considering it was meant to be a biopic. I think it could have benefited by being longer, a three hour biopic of such a fascinating and influential figure wouldn't have been asking too much I don't think.
