Jane Eyre
Dir: Cary Fukunaga
2011
****
Cary Fukunaga's adaption of Charlotte Brontë's Jane Eyre is the antidote to the rut the countless TV versions fall into. Not every component of the book has been translated to screen but from set and costumes to the performances and photography, every word has been understood and beautifully visualised and I would argue that what has been left out was left out wisely. Every scene is rich with texture and context, Cary Fukunaga is a film maker to look out for and should be the go-to man for classic adaption from now on. I'd certainly be happy to see his versions over most from now on.
