Killing Them Softly
Dir: Andrew Dominik
2012
*****
Killing Them Softly is the last great American Classic, albeit directed by a Kiwi. OK, so it may not be regarded as a classic yet but it will be, it certainly deserves to be anyway. Great writing and great characters, its funny and brutal. It's modern life so maybe it's too soon to appreciate, I'm sure generations to come will look back at it in film studies classes and talk of its brilliant social comment on the blurred lines of Corporate crime vs. Organised crime. The script is the best I've heard for ages, often underplayed but always perfectly timed. Choose your political preference, it doesn't matter an inch, America is a business, now f**king pay me! This might just be my favorite film of 2012.
