Basic Instinct 2
Dir: Michael Caton-Jones
2006
*
You've got to feel sorry for Michael Caton-Jones, this film nearly destroyed him. It is a shameless cash in and a really lazy one at that. They couldn't even think of a new catchy title. Sharon Stone is cringe-worthy as she reprises her role, you can just tell she is like that in real life too (Michael Caton-Jones has pretty much said so in interviews). It's all a bit rubbish unfortunately, I should have guessed when the first scene had Stan Collymore of all people playing with Ms Stones lady bits in a Ferrari. A grim thought. 2006 was a bad year for David Thewlis too, what with this and the remake of The Omen being the only films he made (not that he's bad in either film). The big problem, apart from pretty much everything, is that it is a British film trying to be big and American, it just doesn't work. Utter nonsense, even young boys, who will watch it for only one reason, will be disappointed. The pause button is finally safe.
