Operation Petticoat
Dir: Blake Edwards
1959
****
The premise of 1959's Operation Petticoat is very silly, it's pure Blake Edwards material and him at his best. Cary Grant and Tony Curtis are great together on screen, you can just tell they had a great time making it too (although I'm sure the LSD helped). It's a little sexist but it's very much of its time rather than dated, in fact there is something quite timeless about it even though it is a classic. It's certainly never offensive, it's Sgt. Bilko at Sea but with a certain debonair charm about it. A great comedy with a match made in heaven.
