Tracks
Dir: John Curran
2014
****
The real life story of Robyn Davidson's 1,700-mile trek across the deserts of west Australia has taken nearly 30 years to get to the big screen. Personally I think it was well worth the wait. Mia Wasikowska is an up and coming actor and is destined for greatness, I have no doubt about that, but I'm glad she made this film while she is lesser known. This needed a powerful performance, not a big name and she delivers tenfold. It is wonderfully directed by John Curran, he shows both the hardship and the beauty of the desert perfectly, with every frame perfectly delivered. It is an amazing story, it is also a very personal story, Curran and Wasikowska deliver what is a beautifully written book into a compelling, heartbreaking but ultimately uplifting story to life. It's a great achievement but don't watch without a box of tissues handy as it contains one of the saddest scenes I've ever seen.
