The Help
Dir: Tate Taylor
2011
****
Overlooking the simplicity of a complicated situation and the sugar-coating of a sour era, I was still pretty impressed with how Tate Taylor handled the The Help, although I admit I haven't read the book. It's hype is justified, it is a great story with great characters, played by a very competent cast who all do exceptionally well, although Bryce Dallas Howard could have toned it down a bit, she was verging on cartoon character in her performance at times. I think it is probably the ending that disappointed me the most though, did they really all live happily ever after? Not quite but then you have to take it as it is and for what it is, and what it is ain't bad.
