The Time Traveler's Wife
Dir: Robert Schwentke
2009
****
Maybe I'm going soft in my old age but I thought The Time Traveler's Wife was really rather sweet. It's nice to have a sci-fi film without a load of running around, explosions, magic swords etc. I've not read the book, so I can't pass comment on whether it is a good adaptation but it has made me want to seek out the author's work. Subtle, sweet and beautifully filmed, it's a bit of a mystery as to why it received so much negativity on release. It is a little melancholic I admit and it aims for the heart/tear ducts quite unashamedly but it's a wonderfully romantic and original idea I think it's unfair not to give it its due credit.
