Phenomena (AKA Creepers)
Dir: Dario Argento
1985
****
Dario Argento's Phenomena shouldn't really be any good. It has a stupid story, terrible acting and an awful script. It's not terrible though, it's genius. Argento is an acquired taste but you can't argue with a script that sees a Monkey killing a women with a razor blade out of revenge because she had killed it's master on a chair lift because he might have found out about her deformed son who decapitates young girls, can you!? Luckily Jennifer Connelly has power over insects who help her save the day. It's 100% Bizarre and utterly brilliant because of it. Donald Pleasence is great in his supporting role, it's one of his best horrors for sure. Goblin's Heavy Metal soundtrack adds to the 80's cheesy brilliance of the whole thing, the whole thing is great.
